If the melt temps are near to being equal, then you have a very good chance to achieve a bond. All that is needed is for the heat temp. of the TPU to slightly melt or soften the surface of the PC and you will get a thermal bond. In Aco Mold, my assumption was that the melt temp of the TPU would be much lower than the PC. One thing to be careful of if the melt temps are equal or near equal is the displacement of the PC by the injection flow of the TPU if the TPU skin is thin and the flow length is long you may actually & quot;push& quot; the PC during the second injection process.
Aco Mold is molding the PC part in one injection molding machine and then taking the PC part to a second machine and loading it in a second mold and overmolding the TPU. When speaking of cellphone covers you are probably molding the part in a single machine with 2 injection units where you get a finished 2 component part from one injection molding machine. Which can be called double injection or 2k molding. A completely different process, mold and machine. An & quot;overmolding& quot; job is typically of much lower volumes than you see with cellphone housings and doesn& acute;t warrant the expense of the 2K mold or the machine with 2 injection units.
