Description
Disc coupling with axial forces
Here two round or ring magnets are opposing one another, often made anisotropic material. They are magnetised multipolar and sector-patterned over the circular area. With disk couplings high axial forces have to be taken into consideration. The starting speed should be selected in such a way that skipping of the magnetic poles is avoided. The torque is the same for all speeds. It depends on the magnetic material, magnetised surface, air gap and type of magnetisation.
Radial Coupling
An outer ring magnet with its poles magnetised to its inner periphery and a smaller inner ring with an equal number of poles on its outer surface provide the coupling. The starting speed should be selected in such a way that skipping of the magnetic poles is avoided. The torque is the same for all speeds. It depends on the magnetic material, magnetised surface, air gap and number of poles. By means of the torque diagram on page 69 it is possible to determine the torque or the air gap of radial couplings.
